Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Home to Half the World’s Mountain Gorillas

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park lies in southwestern Uganda, an ancient, dense rainforest draped across steep hills and valleys near the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bwindi protects one of Africa’s oldest and most biodiverse forests.

The park is world-renowned as home to roughly half of the world’s remaining population of endangered mountain gorillas, with several habituated families available for tracking on foot through the forest’s dense undergrowth. Beyond gorillas, Bwindi shelters forest elephants, numerous primate species, and more than 350 recorded bird species within its tangled, biodiverse canopy.

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi is widely regarded as one of Africa’s most profound wildlife encounters, offering a rare chance to sit quietly in the presence of a wild gorilla family. Combined with its remote, misty landscapes, Bwindi stands as the centrepiece of any Uganda safari.
